Alejandro Bustamante, MD
Dr Alex Bustamante is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine. Although a New York City native, he spent his formative years in South America. He went to La Salle high school In Venezuela. After completing medical school in Latin America, he worked as a post-doctoral fellow at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Denver doing clinical medical research. He later finished his internship at the University of Colorado General Surgery Residency Program. Dr. Bustamante completed his Family Medicine Residency at Lynchburg Family Medicine in Lynchburg, Virginia.
Dr. Bustamante’s area of interest include treatment of knee osteoarthritis and intra-articular joint injections with the use of fluoroscopy for accurate placement of medications. He is also passionate about preventive medicine.
In his days off, he enjoys weight lifting, skiing and trail running.
Amanda Black, FNP
Amanda was born and raised in the beautiful state of Colorado. She graduated from Regis University with both her Bachelors and Masters degrees. She worked as a nurse from 2011-2015 in pediatrics, then specialized pediatric oncology. She has been a Family Nurse Practitioner since 2015 and has a wide variety of experiences in family practice. She is especially interested in women’s health and pediatrics. Her favorite thing about family practice is the ability to help care for the entire family and form great relationships with her patients. She believes that providers and patients need to form a partnership to work together on healthcare goals. She also speaks Spanish to help aid in providing care to the Spanish speaking population.
In her free time Amanda enjoys spending time with her amazing husband, daughter and son. They certainly keep her busy! She also loves cuddling with her dogs and cats and watching her fish. Her biggest hobby is reading, and least favorite activity is doing laundry (which unfortunately is NEVER ENDING).
Amanda is very excited to meet you and be a part of Family Medicine Associates.
Lora Shima, FNP
Lora Shima is a family nurse practitioner who has worked in health care since 1998. She originally hails from Florida where she earned a Bachelor's in Microbiology from the University of Florida. She later moved to Texas and completed her bachelor's in Nursing from Texas Women's University. Lora has worked in a large variety of fields including medical/surgical, oncology/hematology, mom/baby, and pediatrics. She graduated with her Master's in Nursing with a focus in family medicine from Regis University in 2022. She is excited to be working in primary care and prevention; helping patients and families live healthy lives.
Lora has lived in Colorado for over 25 years. In her off time, she enjoys spending time with her family and kids, hiking, and paddle boarding on the beautiful lakes of Colorado. She is excited to be joining Family Medicine Associates and looks forward to caring for her community.

David Leistikow, M.D.
Dr. Leistikow is a native of the Iowa farmlands who continues to enjoy a country and farming lifestyle here in beautiful Colorado. He is a graduate of the University of Iowa Medical School. He is Board Certified in Family Medicine, Holistic Medicine as well as Brief Psychotherapy under Hypnosis. He started the Brief Psychotherapy Institute of the Rockies www.bpiotr.com. As he enjoys teaching, he holds faculty instructor positions with the University of Colorado and the Deepak Chopra Meditation Centers. As a pilot, he enjoys flying planes. He uses his body and mind medicine to sustain a happy and healthy lifestyle as a tri athlete in his spare time. He is married to Dr. Kandel and they have 3 grown children.
